CRAFTING A BETTER ENVIRONMENT

PROJECTS
Plastic Sleeping Mats
One of the largest projects initiated by MAC club is the Plastic Sleeping Mats project. Plastic bags donated to us statewide are used to make "Plarn" or plastic yarn. The plarn is then crocheted or knitted into sleeping mats by our members. The ultimate purpose of this effort is to reduce landfill plastic waste (plastic bags) and donate the mats to local homeless shelters.
Recycling Drive & Collection
MAC collects recycling from AHS classrooms 3 times a week. In April and May 2023, we collected 700 lbs of recycling. We also encouraged school-wide participation by hosting a grade-level competitive recycling drive. It is our goal to hold AHS accountable for its environmental impact, as classroom recycling was restored fall of 2022.
Battery Recycling
We encourage students and teachers to bring their used batteries to school and drop them off in our collection center. Once we have enough batteries a MAC member will take them to either Staples or Battery Plus and recycle them.
Drop off your batteries in
room 267!
Crayons for Kids
MAC partners with restaurants such as Bonefish and Timberwod, who provide kid activity books with crayons. Unused or barely used crayons are picked up by MAC members and are taken to local elementary schools. These art supplies are donated to teachers and kids!
One Tree Planted
MAC fundraises and takes donations for One Tree Planted.
Look out for fundraisers throughout the year that support this organization.
We also take donations, so if you are interested in donating please bring cash or check to one of the executives or Ms.Webber.
One Tree Planted Vision:
We want to make it simple for anyone to help the environment by planting trees. Together we can restore forests, create habitat for biodiversity, and make a positive social impact around the world.
